DEMANDING, NOT GIVING.
Hie exacting girl nearly always kills love. She demands so much of it, instead of giving. She. wants to know that her fiance belongs entirely to her. She is jealous of any encroachment, on his time, other than the huge demands she herself makes. People say, "It isn't any nse being too keen. Onco men are sure of a girl, they don't want her any more." That, in itself, is abjectly wrong. What a dreadful world it would be if it were true! Many happily married couples owe the basis of their contentment to the fact that they can each rely on the other—and because of this they give each other all the freedom in the world, and a contented love and companionship. Being sure of a girl's love does not tire a man: what tires him is when love is made the whole business of life. He hates, too, being reproached if he is not always ardently demonstrative. Therefore, don't be exacting. It is difficult not to be just a little possessive. And we all have our due rights. _ But over these we must not go, . and if we truly love, we shall not wish to. Demand all your man's time, all his allegiance, denying the rights of friends or relations; make him spend any spare time writing to you or he knows that his life will not be worth living the next day—and you will surely lose him. More than that, honestly you deserve to, because you are putting yourself first.
