AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.
CONDITION OF TH E ROADS. The council of the Auckland Automobile Association met last, evening the chairman, Mr. J. A. Warnock, presiding. The service officer reported that the Great, South Road between Taupiri and Ngaruawahia was in a deplorable condition. The maintenance work was being carried out on a futile scale and motorists were avoiding journeying over the route as far as possible. Several members endorsed the service officer's opinion, and said this was the most neglected section of the Great South Road. It was resolved to forward a telegram to the Main Highways urging immediate attention k> the route. A letter was received from the M&rn Highways Board stating that it was hoped to complete the programme for th<s Maraaku Rush Road next year. The work proceeding would place the road in failorder for next, winter, and £7500 had been allocated for improvements during the current year. The Rodney County Council advised that as matters now stood, it was impossible to guarantee anything but a summer road from Waiwera to Warkworth. The Main Highways Board wrote to the effect that a. suggestion that the Hamilton-Cambridge Road should be laid in concrete was not approved, as traffic conditions would not warrant the expenditure. A resolution was carried approving of the proposal to lay the 10 mile stretch from Otahuhu to Papalrara in concrete, in preference to bitumen. Seventy-five new members were elected.
