MAIN SOUTH ROAD.
TAUPIRI TO NGARUAWAHIA. COUNTY COUNCIL'S DIFFICULTY. [BX TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] HAMILTON. Wednesday. An opinion was expressed by Mr. T. H. Henderson ai the meeting of the Waikato County Council yesterday that as the stretch of four miles of the main South Road, between Taupiri and Ngaruawahia, which is in a very bad condition, was of little use to the county ratepayers, the Main Highways Board should take it .over. The council's attention to the condition of the road was drawn by the Public Works Department, which stated that the road was in urgent need of repair. The department added that unless something was done soon the road would be impassable in a very short time. Several members stated that if the Highways Board took the road over it could charge the council whatever amount it wished for maintenance, and consequently a large sum would be deducted from the council's subsidies. Messrs. W. Henry and Henderson were deputed to interview the Public Works Department's representatives in Hamilton and explain the council's position.
