AMERICAN ATHLETES.

VISIT TO THE DOMINION, CONTROL AND ITINERARY. [BY TELEGRAPH.• —OWN' CORRESPONDENT. ] V, r ELLINGTON, Tuesday. The council of the Now Zealand Amateur Athletic Association has accepted proposals put forward by the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club for the visit of well-known American amateur athletes to the Dominion during the coining season. In seeking the support of the various centres the Wellington centre pointed out that a sum of £SOO would have to he guaranteed before anything was done. The Wellington centre guaranteed £2OO and other guarantees were asked as follows: Canterbury, £75; Otago, £75; Auckland, £75; Wanganui and West Coast, North Island, £75; Gisborne, £SO. Favourable replies were received from all except Wanganui, but. as Auckland agreed to guarantee £IOO the total amount required was forthcoming. With regard to profits from the tour the Wellington centre proposed that all guarantees would first of all he paid, and that of the remaining amount 75 per cent, be divided pro rain according to the net profits earned by the various centres, the other 25 per cent, to go to the council. It was stated further that every effort would be made to bring both Jackson Scliolz and .Ray Baker to New Zealand, but if cither or both wore not available it was asked that the matter be left in the hands of the Advisory Board set tip by the Wellington centre, which would invite only athletes of note. As it was proposed to ask the American athletes to travel by the Niagara, leaving Vancouver on December 16 and arriving at Auckland on January 4, the Advisory Board intimated that if was essential to have the whole matter determined without delay. A tentative itinerary was drawn up as follows: —-.January 4, arrive at Auckland; January 5, arrive at Wellington; January 22, compote at Wanganui; .January 27, compete at Gisborne; January 30, compete at .Palmerston North; February 3, compete at iFawera ; l l ebruary 6, compete. in Wairarapa; February 10, compete at Levin: February 13, compete at Wellington; February 17, compete at Ashburton or '.lJmaru ; February 20, compete in Otngo; February 24, compete at Christ-church; March 3, compete in Wairarapa; March 6, compete at Wellington; March 10, compete ai iiotorua ; March .13, compete at Auckland; March 16, leave Auckland by the Niagara. The council to-day accepted the proposals subject to certain conditions which provide for the tour being controlled by the council, and the management being carried out. by a sub-committee comprising four members of the council and four representatives of the centres, to be nominated by the Wellington centre.
