MATERIALS FOR SPRING.
A garden in spring is a display of fresh loveliness and brilliant colourings, and, strange though it may seem, the first collection of spring materials recently seen called such a garden to mind. The new fabrics which will compose our spring | toilettes are really wonderful, and so varied in colour, design and texture that it, is impossible to deal with them all, writes a, fashion expert. There is no doubt that the vogue for Kasha will be maintained. It is interesting to note that this material, which has recently been hailed as a new discovery 1 and achieivd astonishing popularity, has, in fact, been on the market for twelve years. It is being manufactured in an astounding number of colours and designs, and one remarkable for its imposing name —Ziblitchintekasha —has a marie effect. Designs in artificial silk are , very effective worked into various Kashas, the latter be ing hand-woven bv French peasants from the wool of the Tibetan goat. Brilliantly coloured floral effects are achieved and aie extremely artistic both in conception and execution. Artificial silk plays an important part in the new spring fabrics. It is combined with voiles, cottons and wools. A charming material composed of wool with a transparent stripe of artificial silk is called "Ajouralga"; another fabric which is made of artificial silk arid cotton and is extremely pretty has been christened "Novecla."* A version of this, which has a honeycomb effect, is made in very lovely shades, including a rich tone of magenta, which is known as "Reine Marguerite," and a brilliant scarlet. Handsome dress "lengths" of georgette worked all over in a large circular design in brodsrie anglaise, over which are stamped multi-coloured floral patterns, ar<- among the spring novelties. The vogne for checks and plaids is likely to be maintained, and deep border j patterns are introduced very effectively on to plain material.
