PRESENTATION.
The township of Kaiwaka, on the j Northern Main Trunk line, was the scene | on Tuesday, September 29, of a very interesting gathering, the occasion being the farewel'ing of Miss Elizabeth E. Dowson, the daughter of one cf tha oldest settlers in the district, recently deceased. The meeting was held under the auspices of a committee of 'ladies consisting of Mesd.air.es McClean, Ross, Bowman and | Lit tin. Miss Donaldson and others. After j refreshments had been served, Mr. G. F. j LmnelL sen., addressed those present, and j spoke in eulogistic terms of Miss Dowson's | •work in their midst, and said that the presence of so large a number, of friends evidenced the high esteem in which she was held. He asked her to accept a parting gift of a beautiful travelling rug and leather dressing case, subscribed | for by her well-wishers, and he expressed the hope that she 'would long be' spared to use the gifts in visiting her old friends in Kaiwaka. Miss Dowson suitably re sponded, after which her sister, Nurse Dowson, gave expression to a few heart felt remarks, being followed by Mr. Walter Littin, who in a few well-chosen words expressed regret at Miss Dowsori's departure, Those present then joined in singing "Auld Lang Syne," and after three rousing cheers, the meeting, as fair as the presentation was concerned, came to an end.
