FARMERS' MANIFESTO.
NO COMPROMISE POSSIBLE.
THREAT OF FREE LABOUR.
[B"S TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WELLINGTON, Thursday.
| Officials of the New Zealand Farmers' Union met recently to consider the shipi ping upheaval and the following statement was issued to-day:— " It is of great importance to fanners and the wbole community that the matter should be settled as promptly as possible to avoid very serious loss. At present four million sterling worth of produce is held up. It is clear to ns that the disturbwice is not doe to any question of wages or conditions, but is a deliberate attempt to disorganise the shipping and trade of the Empire. While we are marking time cur trade rivals, notably Argentine, am not being thus hampered. We therefore ennsidej: that no compromise is possible, and that there is no alternative but for the Government to take such action as shall permit free labour of any standing to give a hand to put our goods on the market."
