MUNICIPAL HOUSING.
OFFERS OF LOAN MONEY. THE STATE FIRE OFFICE. LARGE SUMS AT 5 J PER CENT. [BY TELEKEAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Friday. Questioned to-day as to the ficcuracy of the statement made in the Christchurch papers a few days ago to the effect that the- State Firo Office had offered a loan of £25,C00 to the Christ- *• church City Council for housing purposes, Sir R. Heaton Rhodes stated that he, as chairman of the State Fire Office board, had advised one of the Christchurch members of Parliament that if the Mayor of Christchurch liked to apply to the State Firo Insurance Office for such a loan the amount would be forthcoming at 5h per cent. Sir Heafon Rhodes added that the ■ Mayor of Wellington had been similarly notified. If these offers are accepted it will enable both the Christchurch and Wellington City Councils to make an early start
with their respective housing schemes.
