ATHLETICS.
LABOUR DAY SPORTS. A, comprehensive programme has been arranged for the Labour Day. sports to be held on October 26 under the auspices of the Akarana Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club. It includes handicap events from 100 yds. to one mile, two 100 yds. championships, four cycling events, a ladies' 100 yds. handicap, two relay races and novelty events. The Kohn Cup, Massey Cup and Elliott Cup of the Akarana Club, which are competed • for annually, will be attached to the various races. Entries for the events may be lodged with the secretary at the Trades Hall between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on October 8 and 9. ROAD RACE INQUIRY, ALLEGED BREACHES OF RULES. [by telegraph.—press association.] CHRISTCHURCH. Friday. Delegates to the North Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union met in committee to consider charges that have been made by the officials of the Timaru to Christchurch road race against certain riders of breaches of the rules of the race. After some evidence was heard the inquiry was adjourned for a fortnight to enable the centre to obtain more evidence.
