LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
STORMONT MEMORIAL SHIELD, FIRST CAME THIS AFTERNOON; PONSONBY V. MARIST OLD BOYS. Tlio League football contest between Ponsonby and Marisfc Old Boys at Carlaw Park this afternoon is causing considerable interest. In the club competition completed a few weeks ago the Marisb torn were considered unlucky in not gaining a more prominent place. They gave both City and Ponsonby hard games, only ;i to be beaten by the smallest of margins. Fast and open football is a characteristic of Ponsonby, whoso side to-day is the best they have yet fielded. With both teams at full strength a fine exhibition of the code should be witnessed. .Added interest is assured by the fact Jhat the winners will meet City next Satur- , . day for possession of the Stormont Memorial Shield, The curtain-raiser will bo played between Richmond and Ponsonby fourth grado teams. Richmond have an unbeaten record this season, and are credited with many fine exhibitions.
