THE MONTH OF AUGUST. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Thursday. The vital statistics for August show that, the total births registered for the urban areas amounted to 987, against 1056 in July, a decrease of 69. The deaths in August totalled 579, a decrease of 24 as compared with the previous month." Of the total deaths, males contributed 316 and females 263. Seventy-four of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 12.78 per cent, of the whole number. Fifty-four of these were under one year of age.
