Tho section on wiiich the braiding ia fco be erected was the site o£ the old bulk store of Messrs. E. Porter and Company, which has been standing for oyor 50 years. It has a I frontage to O'Connoll Street of 36ft., with | a depth of 55fi Plans have been prepared by Messrs. Rough and Sooper providing for a twostorey building of concrete faced with . Oamaru stone. The stone used will be of a creamy colour, and is of a coaraer kind than that used in the Town Hall and St. MatthewV Church. It has been need in the Anglican Cathedral in Dune- ' din, and has boen fonnd .rooredurabls. ] The builiing will be of a classic design, : two massive lonic pillars being the main ; feature of the facade. Hie base will : bo of New Zealand marble. • A noticeable point is that windows have been freoly provided for. As attempt ' has been majde to do away with artificial 1 lighting. entirely, and the main office on ' the ground floor will have windows on 1 the front, back, and one side. In addi- 1 tion to the general office on this floor, there will be the manager's office,'strong 1 room and a large public space. A | staircase Of white New Zealand marble 1 will lead to the upper floor, which will * be taken up by offices. j
