"MOSTLY ATROCIOUS."
LONDON'S STATUES. LONDON, Sept. 8. Jacob Epstein, the sculptor, defending the Hudson memorial, said he conceived Rima as a half-wild creature living in the woods with birds and animals. His main idea had been to suggest movement. He described Queen Victoria's statue outside Buckingham Palace as "a fearful concoction," and Trafalgar Square as "an unholy mess," and about the worst square in the world. ' "Look at that silly column carrying a puny figure of Nelson," ho said. "It is out of all proportion." London's statues, he declared, .were mostly atrocious.
