CIVIC GUARD FOILED. ESCAPE WITH THE STILL. LONDON. Sept. 6 A large force of the Civic Guard, while searching for illicit stills in the Mayo Mountains, says a message from Belfast, discovered a distillery in full blast. y While the place was . being encircled, scouts gave warning, and the potheenmakers scattered in all directions.
One hastily stripped and, carrying the still on hie shoulders, plunged into the river. With others assisting him he swam across and escaped, despite the guards' fusillade of revolver shots.
