YOUNG MEN'S INSTITUTE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE' AWAMUTU. Tuesday. A project is on foot to revive the Young Men's Institute, an organisation established here in 1911 and which went into recess during the war. Attempts were made afterwards to revive interest but these were unsuccessful, and last year the executive handed over a section valued at nearly £9OO to the Borough Council as an endowment. Legal formalities were not completed, however, and now steps are being taken io reorganise the institute. It is understood that an offer has "been made to erect substantial premises on the section with provision for the Young Men's Institute and the Returned Soldiers' Association. The Borough Council heard a deputation on the subject and decided to postpone completion of the transfer for six months to p.fford opportunity for the institute to by revived. A deputation from the Waipa Bugby Union asked the Borough Council to effect certain improvements to the Albert Park playing area, contending that the revenue from the reserve should bo spent exclusively on it. The football, grounds ■were in need of top-dressing, levelling, etc. The council considers that the union should share the expense. The discussion at times was fairly acrimonious and finally the matter was referred to the Works Committee for ■ a report. The Borough Council has closed the Massey Memorial Fund with a total of £2 18s.
