PARIS NOTES.

Contrary to fashion predictions, pastel tints are predominating. There is <joite a new ganrme of half tones: the pinkishmauve of the crepuscole carnation; the brownish pink of the fading rose; "blot-ting-paper" pink; "water-lily" pink; "pigeon's throat"; "dock" bine; all the mouse-grey, rose-beige, chamois, amber, and old ivory shades. The pastel range of colour applies equally to linen, organdie, shantung, crepe de soie, cbarmouse and panne—in other words, to morning, afternoon, and evening frocks. The elaborate skirt has long been with as. Now we are starting on a season of elaborate corsages. Gone is the plain tunic top. The latest frocks display cascades of pleated organdie or tnlle; single and double jabots of Yenise, and deep Vandyke collars of lace or embroidered muslin. The smartest sleeves are very lone; and tight; many are finely niched a la .Bernhardt: half-sleeves of laco or embroidery are worn, reaching only to the elbow. Big soft sashes are coming in again, in lovely shades of delphinium blue, anemone pink, and ira mauve. The new Basil is worn almost at the normal waistline. Artificial flowers continue to be a most important note in all the new dresses. Rosea and carnations are too old-fash-ioned, however, and trails of water lilies with buds and stems complete or clusters of hollyhocks take their place, with daisies for buttonholes. A fair-sized pocket is placed or, the outside of the crown in some of the newest felt hats; a gaily coloured handkerchief peeping from the pocket then suffices for trimming. Sometimes a scarf matching the handkerchief is worn. Very feminine are the new evening dresses which simulate the butterfly, made in exquisitely painted chiffon. The side draperies represent wings, and down the front the material is ruched to represent the body of the insect. Useful as well as chic are the black moire pocbetoe bags, which have a tiny diamond and platinum watch on their left corner outside, and these bags are of snakes kin, satin, and leather covered with gold brad.
