DESERTION FROM HORORATA.
ANOTHER «SHIP : PREFERRED.
A charge of deserting from the steamer Hororata was admitted by Peter McGee, aged 32, in the Police Court yesterday, before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., Chief-Detective Cnmrnings said that accused deserted at Auckland on April 24. He joined the Maheno and on the vessel's return from Sydney that morning was ar-. rested. His general character was satisfactory, and the company was willing to take him back. His good jptentions were obvious. As soon as he landed he posted £7 to his wifo. Accused was convicted and was ordered to pay £2 7s costs. His return to the Hororata was ordered. William Robert Curson, aged 25, was remanded until next Monday on a charge of stealing £7 10s in money and a wallet valued at 5s from Gabriel Bossad. In the case of Charles Noel Stromberg, aged 36, charged with being idle and disorderly at Te Puke, a iremand was made to Rotorua next Tuesday.
