NEW LYNN AFFAIRS.

DISTRICT REVALUATION.

The New Lynn Town Board met this week, tho chairman, Mr. C. F. Gardner, presiding. There were also present: Messrs. A. Shaw, F. Roberts, E. Stacey, I. Hughes, T. Browne, and S. H. Wilding. It was resolved to contribute £lO toward tho Auckland Provincial Court at the Dunedin and South Seas Exhibition. Notification was received from the Valuation Department that a re-valuation. of the district would be made and, if possible, completed in time for the rate notices of 1926.

In reply to the board's letter complaining of tho increased levy for hospital and charitable aid, tho Minister for Health wrote stating that, as far as he could gather, the board had not very great grounds for complaint. It would seem that it was receiving greater benefits than the amount of its levy. Mr. H. Green wrote suggesting that a larger culvert bo constructed in Gardner Street. The heavy rain last weekend had shown that the present culvert was inadequate to carry off any considerable body of surplus water. His property was flooded in consequence. . Tho board's engineer reported having visited Mr. Green's property and noted its flooded state. Ho recommended that a larger culvert ho constructed. It was agreed that the question of culverts generally should bo embodied in tho forthcoming loan proposals and it was resolved to ask the engineer to expedite his report on those proposals. The New Lynn District Community Guild forwarded a petition containing over 350 signatures, requesting that New Lynn be included in the Auckland Electric Power Board's area. In reply to a question, Mr. Gardner stated that another 100 names would be necessary to brinoj the total to the number required for the petition to receive attention. It was resolved to support the petition. The building inspector reported that during the past fortnight 11 permits had ,bean issued, the estimated value being. £4097. There were 15 houses in course of erection.
