NOTES FROM WHANGAREI.

TOWAI MAIN ROAD POLL. [by TELEGEATir.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHAN OA RE I, "Wednesday. Tho Whangarei Borough Council resolved to notify tho Forestry Department that in connection with the proposed tree-planting on an extensive scale on tho slopes of Par ah alii the council was agreeable to supervision being exercised by departmental officers, but wished to bo free in regard to the spending of t.ho profits that might accrue from tho undertaking instead of abiding by the regulations that such profits should be spent only on afforestation. A poll is to be taken in the Tovnai Riding of the Bay of Islands County on a proposal to raise a special loan of £3200 for formation and metalling and erecting bridges and culverts on tho road between Waiomio and liukerenui. The estimated cost of tho work is £16,000, and tho Main Highways Board proposes to find £12,800 of that amount provided the ratepayers saddle themselves with the balance. Completion of the metalling of the main road will give tho Towai settlers a good outlet to cither Whangarei or Kawakavra in both summer and winter at a cost which is very light.
