CONVICTION FOR FRAUD. YOUNG WOMAN'S OFFENCE. ADVISED TO RETURN HOME. Described by Chief-Detective Cummings as a professional poker player a young woman, Clarice Adelaide Wynne (Mr. Matthews) appeared in the Police Court yesterday chaiged that with intent to defraud she obtained two pairs of shoes, valued at £3 lis, by representing that she had an account with Smith and Caughey, Limited, under the name of Mrs. R. Williams, Mount Eden. Mr, J. W. Poynton, S.M. and Mr. E. C. Fraser, J.P., wero on the Bench. • Mr. Matthews entered a plea of not guilty and said it was notovvorthy that tho girl who sold tho shoes said she could not identify accused as tho purchaser. Adjutant Gordon had a good opinion of accused who was alone in New Zealand. Mr. Cummings said accused was admitted to probation for two years on June 4 for a mean theft. Tho magistrato considered it would bo better for accused to return to England, as she was a danger. Sho would be convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within a month and ordered to pay £3 8s witness' expenses and to make restitution of .£3 lis. If accused paid tho money she would not have to appear again. IMPRISONMENT FOR WEEK. Two mon of unkempt appearanco, Benjamin James Scott, aged 49, and Ernest Gallot, aged 49, admitted being found on Tuesday night at the Salvation Army Prison Gate Home, Epsom, without lawful excuse. A constable stated that he found tho accused sleeping in a shed on the promises. They had no authority to be on the property and had previously been ordered off. Sergeant Calwell stated that complaints had been made about Scott prowling about Manukau Road arid asking for a bed at houses in tho vicinity. Both had long lists. Sentence of soven days' imprisonment was imposed in each case.

SEQUEL TO STREET FIGHT.

A plea of guilty was entered by Christopher Duun, aged 20, and Rupert James Connell, aged 25, to a charge of fighting in Durham Street on Tuesday. Constable Smith said ho saw Connell punching Dunn. Mr. Moody said Connell was a barman and had occasion to eject a man from his hotel. Dunn interfered and struck him outside tho hotel and he retaliated. Mr. Poynt-on: Dunn started tho business. Ho will bo fined £2, in default three days'. Connell is convicted and discharged.
