WAITOMO LIBERALS.

MR. W. J. BROADFOOT CHOSEN

[ir.T TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE KUITI. Saturday A meeting of supporters of the "National" Party, at the Municipal Hall last evening elected Mr. \V. J. Broadfoot as the candidate for the Waitomo seat. After Messrs. F. Lye and S. G. Smith, M.P.'s, had explained the reasons for the chango in the name of the party, the following resolution was carried: "That this meeting approves tho change of name from "Liber.il" to "National" as it does not involve any sacrifice of true Liberal principles."

THE GISBORNE SEAT. [B ¥ TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] GISBORNE, Saturday. A largo deputation, representative of all classes of the community and also sports bodies, waited on Sir James Car ; roll ou Saturday evening and asked him to contest the Gisborne seat. The chief speaker, Mr. J. Harkness, in urging the request, said that in the opinion of the deputation there was little difference between Reform and Liberal.

Beplying, Sir James Carroll said ho had been approached similarly from other quarters, but would defer consideration considering the state of his health. Personally ho favoured fusion and if ho had been in Wellington at the time ho would ha\fl used his best endeavours to bridge tho gap between the parties.
