The present position regarding the gas regulations is explained in the annual report of tho department of Industries and Commerce. The regulations, which wero gazetted in August, 1924, provide for tho control of the sale and the supply of gas, with special reference to the four chief features, heating value, purity, pressure and price. v Ihe regulations came into force as from January 1 last, and, as a prelimina,y step to their enforcement, the Minister for Indusrties and Conunerce called upon the four gas undertakings at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin to declare ;the calorific value of the pas which was in.ended to be supplied as from April 1925, and to state for his approval or otherwise the maximum price, or prices at which it was proposed to soil each' therm or each thousand cubic feet of pas of the declared calorific value. It was further indicated to these undertakings that tho department would inquire into the cost of production and distribution of gas. This inquiry is approaching completion, and it is expected that the necessary declaration as to calorific value and, maximum prices will be published shortly after the presentation of this report.
