PIRAUNUI SUBDIVISION. RECLASSIFICATION OF LAND. [BX TELF.GR ATII. —OWN COJtmESrONDENT.] 'IE AHOJIA. Tuesday. The Ilungaliunga Drainage Board mot at To Arolia, Mr. F. Hughes presiding. A number of objections wero received to tho proposed general rato in tho Pir.aunui subdivision and also to tho special rate in tho Piraunui special rating area. It was stated by a firm of solicitors, writing on behalf of Mr. W. Christie, that a petition would bo presented, asking for a reclassification. As thero wero anomalies and sonio landowners were paying moro than a fair proportion of rates, it was decided to have a reclassification of tho land made.

Twenty-ono ratepayers in tho South Waihekau forwarded objections to tho iucreaso in rates. The chairman said the Actual increase was only a. farthing in tho t and there was little to complain about. Tho rate as fixed would liavo to stand.

A groat deal of correspondence was received in reference to tho drainage of tho Wairoro soldier settlement. Tho Department of Internal Affairs desired the board to extend its boundaries so as to tako in the area, after which tho question of finance would be considered. Tho chairman said that tho board had dono all that it could be expected to do and it was for the department to act. When the drains were constructed tho board would tako them over.

With regard to tho South Waihekau drainapo works, tho engineer stated that the estimato fell short of actual requirements. If an additional 10 per cent, on the loan were raised it would leave them with a credit of £SO, but engineering and administration charges would still have tf*bo provided for. It was resolved that the remainder of tho work bo dono out of overdraft and that tho general rat© in tho area benefitting from the works bo raised next year to meet tho liability.
