BAN ON A BISHOP.
"A MODERATE DRINKER." BAND OF HOPE DECISION. The name of the Bishop of Durham, Dr. H. Hensley Henson, has been removed from tho list of patrons of the Durham Band of Hope because of his recent expression of views on tho subject of alcohol. Mrs. Yule, a keen temperance worker, proposed that the Bishop of Jarrow, Dr. S. K. Knight, should be elected 12 placo lof Dr. Henson. Tho president, Canon | Lillingston, remarked that he would be ; very much surprised if tho Bishop of ! Jarrow endorsed the views of tho Bishop !of Durham on the drink question. " The 1 selection of Dr. Knight was unanimously i agreed to. Dr. Henson had said: — ! " Total abstinence from alcoholic beverage |is no part of morality. The moderate | uso of alcohol is the tradition of ChristenI dom from the example of the Divino j Founder and Dis Apostles through the ages." j The Bishop declared that ho had been ■ a moderate drinker sinco his youth, and j ho meant to continue so to the end.
