NOTES FROM HAMILTON.

AN ORCHESTRAL CONCERT

[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] HAMILTON, Thursday. The first concert of the season wits given by the recently-revived Hamilton Orchestral Society in tins Town Hall, Hamilton, on Tuesday evening. There was a fair attendance in spite of inclement weather. The orchestra mustered 32 performers, under the baton of Mr. Edwin Dennis, and gave a remarkably fine performance. The items included a selection from '! Der Freyschutz " (Von Weber), "The Smithy," the Allegro Moderato movement from Schubert's " Unfinished Symphony " and a selection from " Pagliacci " (Leoncavallo), all of which received enthusiastic encores. 'Cello solos were rendered by Mrs. P. G. T. Peacocke, and vocal items by Miss Dulcie Fvans and Messrs. J. Battersby and W. 13. L. Williams. Pianoforte solos were performed by Mr. C. Leak. A demonstration of Ayrshire cattle was given by the prominent breeder, Mr. E. Mills, of Hawera, before a large gathering of Ayrshire breeders and others interested at the Ruakura Farm of Instruction this afternoon. Mr. A. W. Green welcomed Mr. Mills at what was the first gathering of its kind held at Ruakura, and the local committee of the Ayrshire Breeders' Association entertained the visitors to afternoon tea. In the evening an enjoyable smoke concert was held.
