FIRE AT DEVONPORT.

HOUSE SEVERELY DAMAGED. TIN OF TAR THE CAUSE. A six-roomed house in Sinclair Street, Devonport, owned and occupied by Mr. Arthur Lett, was extensively damaged by fire on Saturday morning. The outbreak had its origin in the upsetting of a tinful of tar, which was being heated on the kitchen stove. The tar ignited and the flames spread through the rear portion of the house, completely gutting it. Considerable damage was caused to the front rooms by smoke and water, but the local brigade, which received the' call at 8.35 o'clock, prevented! the flames spreading to this part. The property is insured for £350.
