NEW STREET LIGHTING.
ONEHUNGA AND MANGERE. In all probability another fortnight will gee the streets of Onehunga illuminated by electricity, 159 electric lights replacing the 120 gas lamps now in use, at a cost of about £I3OO a year, as compared with £750 a year now paid to tho Gas Company. A further improvement is that the new service will provide light from sunset until midnight, whereas the present gas service is maintained until only 11 p.m. The main thoroughfare is already fitted with 30 lights, each of 250 candle power, while 129 lights, each of 100 candle power, are being installed in the remaining streets, arid their erection is nearly completed. It is expected tho wiring will be finished in a few days. The reticulation of Mangero > is also being pushed on, so that intending consumers along the main roads will soon bo connected, after which the side roads will bo attended to. Residents aro already having their homes wired in anticipation of the service reaching thorn. Poles have been laid as far as the mountain, and it i 3 intended to light tho bridge and also the main road as far as the school.
