THAMES COUNTY ROADS.
NEXT SUMMER'S PROGRAMME. LARGE SUM AVAILABLE. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] THAMES. Friday. There is evidence that the Thames County Council intends-to concentrate on an extensive road construction policy next summer. The county clerk, Mr. 11. T. G. McElroy, was, advised by the Public Trustee last week that the application for a £15,000 loan had been granted. This, with the subsidy of the Main Highways Board, will provide £30,000. The bulk of the money will be spent on the main Hikutaia-Thames road.
Machinery for the Matatoki quarry has recently been purchased and tne quarry should be in working order in a few months-. Aft additional £SOOO loan was sanctioned by the ratepayers to complete the quarry. With the machinery available «o further difficulties or delays are expected in the supply of metal. The quality of the stone is excellent, in addition to which it is easy of access and can be cheaply worked. It is not intended at the moment to push the sale of metal to outside bodies, but this may be done when the county's requirements have been fulfilled.
