The head Chineso foreman at the Shanghai waterworks was shot dead in the street at' Ningpo where there were demonstrations but no riots. Martial law has been declared At Chinkiang the Japanese residents have left tho native city for tho Japanese concession! At Swatow, a seaport town in tho Kwangtnng Province, nrmed parties were landed from tho cruiser Bluebell on two occasions. They first drove off agitators who wero trying to board British ships in the harbour. On the second occasion the bluejackets dispersed a mob which was attacking the foreign hotels. There were no casualties. * '; « The Australian cruiser Brisbane arrived at Hongkong cn Tuesday. Tho Btrike situation in Peking is becoming more quiet and the volunteer workers aro being reduced in number.
