' Improvement and concessions in the steamer service to the Islands, contingent upon an increased subsidy from the Australian Commonwealth Ministry, were outlined to members of the Federal Royal Commission on the Navigation Act recently. These improvements and concessions would, it was stated, involve a deficiency of £IOO,OOO, and the company only aSked the Commonwealth Ministry to grant an additional subsidy on I'Jie present contract of £25,000 pet nnnum. tor a three-year term, or £20,000 for a five-year terra. The company would rely on future efforts and the development of trade in a measure to make up losses. The company had. been waiting for the last six months for a decision from the Commonwealth Government. MOTOR-BUSES IN WELLINGTON.
