MINERS' DISEASES.
- INVESTIGATION SUGGESTED. AUSTRALIAN DOCTOR'S VIEW& a recent sitting of the Australian Commission on Public Health, Dr. S. A. Smith gave some facts and opinions rising out of an investigation he undertook some years ago in conjunction with Professor Chapman on the subject of miners'' diseases. A complete investigation into working conditions with regard to the diseases arising therefrom, he said, was at present # much to bp desired, The best form an investigating body could take was a committee comprising an expert in -hygiene, a physiologist, and their assistants. Among coalminers- he had found that illness was due almost entirely to accident/ and not to aay slow poisoning of the .system like that arising from contact- with load. No evidence had been found to show that pulmonary complaints were more prevalont among coalminers than among the community at large. In mjv occupation where there was physical Wizard there ought to be & compulsory examination of employees.
