ORGANDIE FOR CURTAINS.
'A new furnishing mode has come from America and is becoming popular in British homes, says a writer in an exchange. Novel styles ol window decoration are always welcome, for they add the spice to a famishing scheme, and the new idea, organdies, will appeal to women on this side of the water for many reasons. Organdie is particularly suitable for curtains, both because of "its beauty and daintiness, and because the dust does not soil or penetrate the fabric, but can be shaken off or easily removed with a light vacuum cleaner. Moreover, organdie such as is used for curtains is washable, and cleansing it is such an easy matter. The colours do not run, and it comes up better each -time it is washed. Not only are curtain organdies made in England that are fast to washing, but manufacturers have produced a new organdie that- is sun-proof and impervious to the strongest sunlight that we are ever blessed with. Actually organdie for cur tains is marie in about 20 or 40 shades, but only about 10 of these are in demand for window furnishing. The other 20 are used chiefly for dresses, since the colours are not such as harmonise well with the usual furnishing colour schemes. The colour effects are what are known as " art " shades—that is to say, they are delicately tinted in half-hues and not in the vivid royals and lakes. The shades of medium blue and art green are most suitable. They have a dignirieel and pleasing appearance. American housewives have gone a step further. Not only are these organdies used for curtaining, but they are fashionable for bedspreads, canopies, complete boudoir seta, lamp, shades, and so on.
