RANGIORA DEMANDS.
SUBSIDY FOR A PARK. PROTECTION FROM FLOODS. [BY TELEGRAriI. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON Thursday. A deputation representing the Rangiroa Borough Council approached tho Minister for Public Works seeking a subsidy to enable them to purchaso a park as a playground. It was explained that at present there was no park in the borough and tho only recreation ground was a mile away. "By heavens, you come at it, don't you," exclaimed Mr. Coates, when tho spokesman asked for a pound for pound subsidy in connection with the expenditure of £llsO already ma do in commitment to purchase. Tho Minister said that no doubt tho work was vory desirable, but it was a question of the important of the proposal in relation to tho general development of the country. However, ho would consider the matter. The deputation also made representation for tho formation of tho Ashley River Trust on much tho same lines as tho Waimakariri Trust. It was emphasised that Rangiora borough was in danger of flooding if the river roso, and the borough was willing to boar its proportion of cost, which was estimated to be at least £15,000. Mr. Coates said a bill was already drafted and the request would be carefully considered.
