AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANQE. The demand for investment stocks was maintained on tho Auckland sharemarkct yesterday and business was brisk. In Government securities War Loans, 1038, were firmer by 5s at £97 ss, buyers dropping 2s 6d to £96 10s. The 1938 issue of Inscribed Stock, which sold at £96 15s on Tuesday, was quoted by holders at £97 - ss; easing at tho lato call to the previous day's figure of £97. inquiry unaltered at £96 10s. Soldiers' stock was sought at £IOO 15s, with a rise of 5s at the late call, holders not responding. Other Government securities were j unchanged. New Zealand Breweries j Debentures changed hands at 225, with j moro available at the same figure, buyers j offering 21s lOd. Ift banks New Zealands were lower by 3d at 58:s 3d, offers j dropping a further 3d to 57s 3d. Tho 1 new issue fell during the day to 56s 9d, but recovered at the lato call to 575, when buyers wero up 3d fit 56s 6d. Unions of Australia had sale in two parcels at £l4 14s and £l4 14s 3d respectively, with more available at £l4 15s, buyers £l4 13s. National of New Zealand Rights eased-3d during the day to 265, with buyers down at 25s 4d, increasing to 25s 6d at the late call. Holders of New South Wftles opened at £4l 7s 6d, returning to the previous day's figure of £4l 10s, buyers £4l ss. In insurances New Zealands were unaltered at sellers 34s 6d, buyers 345. Offers for South British, which sold ,on Tuesday at 50s 3d and 50s 6d, rose 3d to 50s 9d, sellers asking 51s 6d. In coals there was a sale in Waipas at 235, with more on offer at 23s 9d. In gas Aucklands again had sale at. 23s 6d, sellers receding from 24s to 23s Bd, buyers down 2d at 23s 4d." The contributing issue changed hands at-4s 8d ; buyers seeking further parcels at a similar figure, sellers 4s lOd. In shipping Northern Steams {contrib.) sold at ,7s, with further inquiry at 6s lid, sellers asking 7s Id. In timber Nationals again had sale at 22s 3d, with further inquiry at the same price, sellers firm at 22s 6d. In miscellaneous New Zealand Refrigerating (contrib.) changed hands at 9s 7d, late buyers offering 9s 2d, sellers 9s 9d. 'lhe upward movement in Taranaki Oils continued, sellers advancing 6d during the . day to 245, and buyers 7d to 22s 9d, a sale taking place at 23s 6d, which was is above Tuesday's selling price. There was a sale in Wilsons Cement .at 32s {3d, 2d above Tuesday's price, closing quotations being sellers 335, buyers 32s 3d.
