FEEDING YOUNG CALVES.
POINTS F£R ATTENTION. When rearing a calf it must not be forgotten that he needs water and mineral matter. When only a few days old he will drink water. By the timo ho is three weeks of age he will want something over a gallon of water each day. Salt (according to a writer in the Southern Ruralist) is also a necessity; a supply should be kept handy at all times, so that the little animal can eat it at will. Calves getting both skim milk anl legume hay have their supply of mineral matter looked after pretty well. Some good dairy farmers, however, recommend feeding onehalf ounce of carbonate of lime or ground rock phosphate a day, mixed with other food. And the young growing animal which is required to go along without green : stuff fails to xeach his best and fullest development. As a last recommendation it is always necessary to say a word about cleanliness. AIL the good feeds in-the world won't produco a calf unless they're put before him in a clean condition. Clean milk fed in a dirty bucket is dirty liefore the calf gets it. Clean hay picked off a dirty floor is dirty by the timo it gets to tho calf's stomach,
