BOISTEROUS WEATHER.

ROUGH SEA IN HARBOUR. SMALL .VESSELS DELAYED. DEPARTURE OF MAUNGANUL The weather conditions at Auckland yesterday wero anything but pleasant. A strong north-east wind was blowing all day and late in the afternoon rain began to fall, followed by heavy showers at intervals up to a late hour when tho wind was inclined to increase. The wind at times almost reached tho force of a moderato gale and raised a choppy sea in the harbour. Owing to the prevailing conditions the Maunganui had considerable difficulty in leaving her berth for Sydney. When backing down tho wharf shortly after three o'clock a projection on her bow caught against and twisted tho iron ladder on one of the Harbour Board's cranes. After getting clear of the wharf the Maunganui had further difficulty in turning so as to point her bow to the eastward. The full power of the tug, which was in attendance, failed to tow the liner's bow up to the wind and the strain was so great that the tow lino parted. Eventually she was enabled to put to sea. / Rough weather on the coast delayed some of the smaller vessels. Tho K&wau was to have sailed for XV irkworth last evening, but tho trip w abandoned. ' The Paroto, which sailed for Marsden Point yesterday morning, returned to port at mid-day owing to the rough sea and wind in the gulf. The Torea, another unit of the Northern Company, was sheltering at W'hangarei Heads yesterday from a Eorth-east gale. The barometer, which had been practically steady at 30.25 in. since the beginning of the week, has been falling steadily since Thursday evening and last night the reading was 29.70 in.» a fall of over half an inch.
