GAMBLING IN DOMAIN.
YOUTHS' SUNDAY DIVERSION. NO CONVICTIONS IMPOSED. Indulgnco in a game of chanco known as "nearest tho mot," led to tho appearance of two youths in tho Police Court yesterday. Mr. A. Moody appeared for both defendants, who admitted the facts. Constablo Hinton said tho defendants and three other youths had played the game in tho Domain on a Sunday afternoon. The gamblo consisted of tossing coins at a stick in tho ground. The player whose coin fell nearest the mark then collected the money and threw it into tho air. All coins which fell "heads up" wero retained by him and the others wero again tossed by the runnerup. Any skill in throwing tho coins was nullified by tho tossing. Tho Magistrate, air. Poynton: Tho element of chanco enters with the tossing. Mr. Moody: This was their first attempt at this game. I havo indicated the evils of gambling to them, to the best of my ability. Mr. Poynton to defendants: Do not play that foolish game again. Counsel asked that convictions should net bo imposed. After further warning the defendants tho magistrate dismissed tho cases.
