JAPANESE EARTHQUAKE.

Latest reports show that the worst effects of the earthquake on Saturday morning were confined to an area of 25 square milos, containing a population of 28,000. Tho total casualties aro estimated at 15,000. Tho damage- to property is estimated at £7,000,000. In tho cities of Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto there was no loss of life and no damage was sustained. .Communication with tho earthquake area has only been partially restored. It is stated that the deaths at Toyo-oka Were not less than 500. Shironosaki, a health resort situated at tho foot of a high cliff, is reported to have been completely buried by landslides. The deat'is thero totalled 500. Kasugamura, a seaside village, was blotted out by a tidal wave. Relief aeroplanes and trains have already gone to the stricken districts. The few people who were injured in Osaka and h':jbo were hurt owing to the panic whic.i followed the earthquake.
