DAMAGE BY FIRE.
DAIRY FACTORY BURNED. OUTBREAK AT BALCLUTHA. [by telegraph.—press association.] DUNEDIX. Tuesday. A firo occurred at Balclutha at one o'clock this morning, when the Clutha dairy factory was burned to the ground. The flames had a firm hold when the alarm was given and a heavy gale fanned the fire. A private car and three motor-lorries were destroyed. The cause of the fire is unknown. The building was insured in the South British Office for about £2OOO.
GLENAVY HOUSE DESTROYED. USED AS A COUNTRY STORE. [BY IELEGRAPH. PRESS ASSOCIATION. ] WAIMATE. Tuesday. The residence of Mr. E. P. Lavery at Glenavy was destroyed by fire on Sunday morning. The building had been used as a store since the store building itself was burned down four months ago, tho family meanwhile living in a nearby schoolhousc.
Though the premises were insured, Mr. Lavery is believed to be a heavy loser.
