CRICKET IN ENGLAND. COUNTY SEASON OPENS. (Received 5.5 p.m.) Reuter. LONDON. May 2. The county cricket season opened today in cold, showery weather everywhere. Batting for Leicester against Sussex, King made 114, thus scoring the first century of the season. The. counties ara now adopting the new hours of play, namely, from noon to 6.45 p.m. for the first day, from 11.15 a.m. to 6.45 p.m. on Hie second day, and from 11.15 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. on the third day, with an extra half-hour if needed. TENNIS IN ENGLAND. NEW GIRL CHAMPION. (Received 5.5 p.m.) Reuter. LONDON. May 2. In view of the approach of the Wimbledon tennis meeting, the defeat of the lady champion, Miss McKanc, in the final at the Birdhurst tournament by the 18-year-old girl, Joan Fry, by 3—6, 6—3, 6—4, is regarded as significant. RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL. ENGLISH CUP FINAL. (Received 5.5 p.m.) Sun. LONDON. May 2. The Rugby League Cup final was played to-day. Hull Kingston, defeated Swinton. BOXING IN SYDNEY. CONTEST ENDS IN DRAW. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 3. At the Sydney Stadium last evening a 20-rounds boxing contest between the Filipino, Pelkev, and Jimmy Allen resulted in a draw. WRESTLING IN MELBOURNE. THYE DEFEATS KAROSIK. Australian and N.Z. Cable' Association. (Reed. 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE. May 3. In a wrestling match at the Stadium last evening, Thye beat Karosik in seven rounds. The winner gained two falls.
