NEW LIGHT ON COAST.
WEST OF THE EAST CAPE« NEAR PORT ELLIOT WRECK. MATERIAL FOR WORK LANDED* A new automatic umvatched flashing light is to be installed on Matakawa Point, Hicks Pay, and the Government steamer Tutanekai landed material for the work last week. The light will he situated about 15 miles to tho west of the East Cape and about 11 miles west of Horoera Point, where the Commonwealth and Dominion Lino steamer Port Elliot was wrecked in l!iick weather on the night of January 12, 1924. The land in the vicinity of the East Cape is often obscured by fog and mist and the new light will enable mariners to check their position before reaching tho East Cape, where the course oP!southbound vessels is altered.
