Tho Hamilton Rugby Union commenced its season ut the now groundsill Rugby Park, Hamilton, tlii« afternoon. in spi.e of inclement weather conditions, there was a luitic, attendance. The spectators were rewarded with some bright foo hall in tho semor matchos, especially in that between Old Boys and Frarikton. The new grounas wore officially opened by Mr. J. A. Young. M.P. for Hamilton, who congratulated the union on having secured such an atset. It was to be hoped that the Rugby-lovmg public of the Waikato would take an active interest in the work of so progressive a body. He observed that already some £IOOO had been spent on the ground, while another i'lOO had already been eel aside for the erection of a grandstand and dressing sheds, which would be erected in the course of the next few weeks. lu (ho absence of the Mayor of Hamilton, Mr A. Brind, a member of the Borough Council, addressed the spectators, and stated that the Mayor, Mr. J. R. Fow, had expressly stated that the Hamilton Borough Council would be willing to give favourable consideration to any proposals tho Rugby Union might submit to it for the. betterment of the game. Mr. Brind then kicked off the first ball. The results of the senior matches were as follows:—-City, 12, beat United, 0. F. Duckinghani. Moyes. C. Christie ;ind Hughes each scored a try for City. The game was fast,, but the winning team showed marked superiority throughout, and kept their opponents on the defensive for most of tun ti inc. Old Hoys drew with Franktoii, 3 all. Mitchell scored for Old Boys oil a penalty, and Taylor for Franklon. also on a penalty. The pin v throughout was remarkably fast, both teams showing great willingness.
