KILLED AT CROSSING.

NEW LYNN ACCIDENT. WIDOW STRUCK BY ENGINE. INSTANTANEOUS DEATH. A fatal accident occurred on the Portage Road railway crossing, New Lynn, at 4.30 o'clock yesterday afternoon, Mrs. Catherine Bogue, a resident of the district., being struck by an inward-bound train and killed almost instantaneously. Mrs. Rogue had been standing at the side of the crossing in conversation with a friend. Her view of the line was probably obstructed by a tree and it is thought she did not hear the whistle of the engine. Shu was well on to the track before she showed any alarm, and was struck by the safety guard and hurled to the side of the embankment. Death occurred before aid could be secured. The enginedriver pulled up the train promptly. He sounded a warning before reaching the crossing. A wig-wag signal has not yet been installed there. Mrs. Bogue is a widow, and has resided in Portage Road for some time.
