[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] j HASTINGS, Wednesday. p In the Police Court this morning, a i widow, an epidemic pensioner -with two 1 children, Was convicted of making a. false j' declaration regarding her earnings. The J magistrate said a person obtaining a pen- ? sion by false declarations was as much a 1 thief as if he picked someone else's pocket. The department did not ask for a penalty . in the present case, but if any offenders 2 were convicted of obtaining pensions 1 Fraudulently they would stand a very good j chance of being* sent to gaol without tho e option. 1 The. accused was convicted and her pension certificate' was cancelled.
