BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH.
LOAN WORKS IN PROGRESS. The Birkenhead Borough Council met last evening. The Mayor, Mr. Jv C. Walton, presided, and there were also present : Messrs. K. (!. tSkeat.es. A. K. Wood, A. Had field. V. H. Hnywnrd, L. R. L. Moller, F. A. Gilpin, \V. Worthington and T. Kartell. Satisfactory progress with the loan works was reported. Rangatira Road was being constructed with scoria, and shell.. The bit iiminising of Glenfichl (load would be completed as far as Highbury Corner by the end of tho week, the length being 54 chains. Forming Mokoia Road, from Highbury Corner, was in progress for some 20 chains, and spraying with bitumen would bo commenced shortly. Tho waterworks engineer stated that 2,335,000 gallons of water had been used during tho month. Throe building permits were granted. With the exception of Mr. W. Worthington, all the members of the council have decided to seek re-election.
