(Received 1-■ <> a.m.) „ , , AMSTERDAM. Mar. 0. Renter. The Dufcli steamer Soerakarta, while. s ho was on route to Java, stranded on jj 10 Netherlands promontory, Hook of Holland. It is feared she will become s total loss. The Soerakarta went, ashore in a blinding snowstorm. A high sea was running »t the time. \ lifeboat failed to reach her, and although a tug succeeded in doing so her hawser became entangled in the screw and the tug capsized. KiHit. of the 15 members of tho crew of the tug were drowned. Other tugs and lifeboats offered their help, but the. crew of the Soerakarta refused to leave their ship until late on the following afternoon. The position being-hopeless lifeboats took off 48 jneri. The captain and officers remained aboard. A stoker on one of the tugs went mad will) fright and jumped into the sea. The Soerakarta is a steel screw steamer of 6926 tons gross register. She was built in 1912 by the Konmaats do Schelds Co!, Flushing, and is owned by tho Rottrrdamsche Lloyd. Her port of registry is Rotterdam.
