DIRT MONEY CLAIMED.
SILKSWORTH AT NAPIER. EXTRA RATE OF 5d AN HOUR. [Bl' TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NAPIER. Tuesday. When the Dalgleish freighter Silksworth. with bitumen from Rotterdam, berthed at Napier breakwater yesterday, the local waterside workers refused to work at the usual rates, dirt money being claimed because it was alleged that the bitumen was dusted by basic slag, a quantity of which was discharged at Auckland. The vessel was not worked yesterday, but this morning, the agents, rather than delay the steamer, agreed to pay a further 5d an ho ir, making a total payment- of 2s 7J;d.
