MOUNT ALBERT BOROUGH.
RECONSTRUCTION OF ROADS PROGRESS OF THE WORKS. The Mount Albert Borough Council met last evening, tho Mayor, Mr. L. E. Rhodes, presiding. There were also present: Messrs. 11. J. Allingham, B. Brigbam, L. F. Simmons and R. E. N. Matthews. The consulting engineer reported continued steady progress on the Edendale Road reconstruction. The footpath on the eastern side of the road was completed to the tram terminus, while the. other footpath was finished to Leslie Avenue. Work on tho approaches to tho Kingsland overbridge had been commenced, and the construction at the difficult junction with New North Road had also been started. The engineer recommended that the road joining Onslow Road with the bridge should be laid down in bitumen. This recommendation was adopted. A further recommendation of the engineer was that, St.. Luke's Road and Balmoral Road should he laid down in bitumen. For half-width paving, he estimated the cost of St. Luke's Road work at £ll2O. and of Balmoral Road at. £4OO. It was decided that Balmoral Road should be. sealed, but the method of construction was Iclt to the Works Committee for report. The council supported the action of the Morningsido South Ratepayers' Association in urging the Railway Department to build a bridge between Gordon Road and the Morningsido railway station. The support of the council for Mr. Rhodes as a candidate for the Mayoralty was given unanimously.
