* , BREAKING OF RECORDS, MOTOR-CYCLIST FINED. .John Wardlcy Harris, wbo recently) passed through Albury On a motor-cyela in an attempt to break the record k betwe«« Sydney and Melbourne, was charged list? week at the local Police Court with hav-t ing driven the cvclo at a pace dangerous to tho public; also with having neglected, to attach a silencer to his machine. The police ' stated that Harris' tore through the streets of Albury at a pac« o? between 35 and 40 miles per hour, and that he averaged over 51 miles per hour, for the whole journey, Sydney to Mel* bourne. In imposing a fine of £5 and costs oa the first charge, and £1 and costs on tha other, the magistrate commented upon thedanger to the public that arose every time these contests were held. In tho interests of the public, he said, it was time they, wero stopped.
