INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.

SITE FOR EXHIBITIONS. THE ORAKEI PROPOSALS The Auckland Industrial Association met yesterday, Mr, J. A. C. Allum presiding. A letter was read from the Minister for Lands stating that the request of the Chamber of Commerce for 60 acres at Orakei for an exhibition site, which was supported by the association, was not favourably considered by the SurveyorGeneral. * The Minister added that competitive designs had been called for the proposed model suburb there. The question of special reservations would bo brought before, the Cabinet. The chairman said it was unfortunate that a more favourable reply had _ not been received. The necessity of giving; the land now should be impressed on tha Government. The city would have to share in the heavy expense of a road to Orakei. and this expenditure would enhance the value of the Government's pro-, perty. The association should not hesitate" to ask that the matter bo given further and more earnest consideration, and should ask for not less than 50 acres. Mr. B. Buttle asked whether Orakei was not too far from the centre of population for the gate money of show? which might be held there to bo satisfactory. In his opinion too many shows ( were being held, and the public was tiring- of them. One was merely a repetition of the other, . It. was decided to write to the Prima Minister and the Minister for Lands strongly supporting the request of the Chamber of Commerce. A letter from the Minister for Internal Affairs stated that instructions had been given that tenders for future supplies of number plates for motor-cars would ba called itt New Zealand. The Minister added that it was not practicable to call for tenders in connection with plates required for the registrations now being effected.
